think that if you load a MAIN.RVT file which contains a link to LINKED.RVT, whist MAIN.RVT is open, there is no way to save changes to LINKED.RVT,

This issue seems very similar to [duplication risk] when loading materials into parameters within families (to then be loaded into a project) or even possibly nested families into (parent) families (then into a project).

Good idea. I got it. I took the texture that was working in modo. Sent it to the standalone. Saved to the localdb. Applied it in c4d and it worked. So now I will save this material that worked as a preset and just change the image maps for future textures.
