Re: OctaneRender® 2026.1 [current 2026]

Hi, I think there's a bug in the OpenPBR surface material.
The coat darkening parameter in the coating layer has no effect.
The renderer only takes this parameter into account when setting a bump map in the coating bump, but the bump map itself doesn't seem to have any effect on the coating bump ...

Re: Octane 2027 Roadmap and Beyond

Render to Gaussian Splat is a very useful feature in my opinion. With a good VR system, we'd be able to immerse ourselves in photorealistic environments with very accurate transparencies and reflections. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in action.

Re: OctaneRender® 2026.1 Beta 1 [current 2026]

In a UV mapped object with an OpenPBR surface material applied, adding a displacement map will corrupt the diffuse texture mapping.

P.s. only high quality displacement mapping

Re: OctaneRender® 2026.1 Alpha 3 [current 2026.1]

In the OpenPBR material, the displacement map doesn't work. Furthermore, there's no way to set a bump map.

Re: Which feature do you need the most?

It would be very interesting to implement a function that generates a Gaussian splat cloud from a 3D model.
The advantage would be real time navigation including reflections and transparencies, which, especially in VR environments, would be great.
I think that Gaussian splat works by adding color ...

Re: Layer reflections AOV

Hi,
thanks for sharing screenshots and the scene, but .ocs format is not good, since it doesn't include geometry and textures used in the scene.

Please go to File/Save as package, then share the resulting .orbx scene, thanks.

Sorry, forgot to ask, which exact version of Standalone are you using ...

Re: Layer reflections AOV

Hi,
always better to post some screenshots, anyway, everything seems ok, from what you have written.

If you have a red object on a mirror floor, what are you expecting to see reflected in the floor?

A red or gray object?

ciao,
Beppe

Sorry, I'll try to be clearer.
First of all I attach the test ...

Layer reflections AOV

I am not clear on how the Layer reflection AOV works.
If I activate both the Layer shadows AOV and the Layer reflection AOV in a material for example with red diffusion (not metallic) and a certain reflection, I get correct gray shadows, but a red reflection.
The reflection, in a non-metallic ...

Diffuse roughness Oren Nayar model

Hi, I wanted to know if it will be possible to revise the Oren Nayar diffusion model, as an increase in surface roughness leads to a rather significant energy loss (materials that are too dark).
The new model has been implemented in Blender a few days ago, after a long discussion among the forum ...

Re: OctaneRender® 2024.1 Beta 1 [current 2024.1]

Bug?
When i set a texture to the plane with "Sample pos. to UV" for matching the background, the object in the scene become semitrasparent...
I attach the scene and image sample.

This projection uses the sample position in image space to calculate the UV coordinate, it's not doing an inverse ...
