Hello,

I am thinkig of buying a new video card. I don't know what is better with Octane. To have one gtx580 with 512 cores or several gts450 with 789 MHz and 192 cores each.
Thank you,
Vladimir

because of power consumption, heat/cooling problems, place requirements a 580 is simply the better choice. also not only core count and frequency is important, but also the memory interface counts into speed, where the 450's is only 128 bits wide where the 580 has a 384 bit interface - and that degrades the performance of the 192 cores a lot! so five 450's with 960 cores in total are roughly only 5-10% faster then a single gtx 580 with 512 cores...

Thank you!
I want to ask another thing. As far as I understand if I have 2 x gtx 580 with 1.5 mb vram each, in Octane I will have only 1.5 mb vram and not 3. Does Octane recognize as much vram as the card with the fewest instaled?

... thats exactly how it works. all the scenes' content must fit into each card, so the one with the least ammount of vram sets the limit.
