right now you are using 2 intersecting planes, which look ok but it repeats too much. Try instead doing a small branch or 2, not just a plane, but a small arc, of 3x3 quads, then create a volume box that'll be your hedge, then with fill it with particles with a random distribution inside that volume and use the branches, control de rotation so it only rotates a small amount and you'd get a better result.
I can't render an example of what I'm saying right now, but here is a crop from one I did using this

I use Sketchup to model architecture vizualisations, for me it's the most userfriendly and easiest modellingsoftware for it.
Then I import it into Blender to scatter objects with the particle system.
But I guess there is a "Scatter"-Plugin for Sketchup as well.
Can't wait for instancing
Kind regards
Alain

well, you can do the same scattering instances (it's just that I tried both methods and particles does a better job at random distribution than scattering) of the branches around a volume box of your hedge. And there is nice scattering tools for sketchup, right now I use a freebie plugin for grass (can't recall the name) that it makes any type of random scattering pretty easy in SU

I would use simply a mesh for the hedges and not your solution. The hedges are a foreground object so they should be detailed or at least as detailed as possible.

This is almost final version, there are still some details to complete, but we're almost there.
The hedge and trees are all 3D models ...
thanks for your support, comments and suggestions are always welcome.
the image has been reduced from the original x2 (3164x1624).

Very nice result. So how did you do the hedges? Intersecting planes with some leaves scattered?
