Hi guys,

Here's a little preview of what you're currently waiting for:

Here's some images, one dragon with and one without SSS, and a lego technic car with some crude SSS materials.
We have fully working and VERY fast SSS ready for release in the next test version.
It renders about as fast (a tiny bit slower) as a glossy specular material. :)
And, it's unbiased/bruteforce SSS, eg no bias introducing photon grids or other precomputed approximations.
SSS dragon, ~12 minutes on 1x GTX460
SSS dragon, ~12 minutes on 1x GTX460
non-SSS reference dragon, ~7 mins on 1x GTX460

lego car, SSS on most mats, ~14 mins on 1x GTX460

We also introduced various new nodes, including a medium node type and scattering function node type, that can be connected to materials to define the internal properties of media (eg BSSRDFs)
In the first release, we will have 2 medium node types, an absorption only node (but 3d texturable!), and an SSS node, with choice of phase functions. (single scattering only for now, but it's very practical and usefull already)

This is the prime new feature in the next test release, along with instancing support and FAST voxelisation, and another suprise feature,
aswell as the soon to be publically released first of a series of new products, OctaneRender for 3DS Max.

We hope this satisfies your long wait for a new version.
I can't give any timeframe, as you know me, it's never accurate and always later anyway :)
But it's definately weeks, not months :)

Nice :-)
Unfurtenaly this is at the last position of my priority-list.
Instancing is on first position and would be a HUGE step for Architecturevizualisation :-)

Anyway ... I know everything is still in beta... so I can't complain :-D

The refractiveteam does a very good job !

Kind regards
Alain

If you read my first post carefully, you'll see that SSS and instancing are in the next test release.

Looks good. These additions will make for some happy campers. 8-)
Thank goodness you finally stopped giving release dates.
Man the trouble that has caused....

Multi obj import.

Please, please, please.

Am I wrong, when i am thinking that loading 2 or more mesh into memory from multi obj files is trivial matter?

Very thank for instancing.

These are the best features to come up with the next release.
:D :)

I hope some Rhino Developers will support you to set up a Rhino2Octane Plugi-In inside Rhino.
That would make my work much easier.

Wow ! I dream about my current snowy landscape project with 12500 trees... I could put even more without using billboards but high poly trees everywhere !
