Viewport gray/blank or 'A final render or another renderer .. '

Trying to get octane working with the addon version for linux and so far no luck: Grey viewport
Getting 'A final render or another rendered viewport is currently active. Please turn it off and try again'
as well as:
The biggest hint I have is a potential addon/server missmatch. Download says 31.7.2 but the ui in blender reports 31.7.0 . I tried a while ago with no luck but didn't investigate any further, this time I'd like to get it running so any help is appreciated!
