I’m having an issue where Octane Blender Addon frequently fails to start rendering. No error is presented. The viewport simply fails to go into render mode.

The correct Octane Server is active.

Blender Console doesn’t show any specific error that I’m aware of either.

The issue seems to occur after I have used another Octane engine, such as Stand Alone. Not only is Blender Octane Addon 2026 effected, but also the 2025 Custom build.
Restarting Blender and the Octane Server, and even a full computer restart, fails to solve the problem.

The only method I found to get back rendering functionality is to disable and re-enable the Octane Blender Addon.
If necessary, I can post what is shown in Blender Console, but it seems not to directly report any errors.

Also, the issue is happening with brand new files with just the default cube.

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

Also, consider the latest NVIDIA Drivers are problematic. If you're using the most updated version, consider a downgrade.

I'm on driver 581.57. My problems seem to be what is listed in the below thread, in which you also recommend against latest driver. That post describes my issue more precisely:

I do not have these freezes and rendering issues at all in Stand Alone. They were getting so bad - including rendering stopping after just 5 frames, that I started exporting to orbx and rendering in Stand Alone. Right now that is fine as I'm just doing testing and look dev. But for more complex whole projects ORBX export can also at times be problematic.

There is definitely an issue here you guys need to look into.

We definitely need content and steps to reproduce the problem.

2026.1 is just a "playground" for now, we're working on the 5.0 version and we're pretty close to a new release.

You're mentioning the same issue with the Custom build, and that should be investigated. But we need content and steps to reproduce the issue.
