I've been using Octane for quite a few years on and off.
recently I got a new work laptop and needed to install c4d again, got it running. I got a normal R21 perpetual, nothing newer.

now I wanted to use Octane again and cannot get it running in any way.

i downloaded the latest available c4doctane 2024.1.2.
the operating system is Windows 11.
I got a RTX 3500 ada gen laptop gpu running nvidia driver v538.27.

If I place the plugin (with only the r21 dll and the other c4d-version related dlls removed) in any of the watchfolders (maxon > plugins OR in a document folder that I link in c4d prefs) cinema will not load anymore. I see the splashscreen for a loong time saying 'loading plugins' but nothing ever happens, it does not start.
I need to use task manager to stop the task. When I remove the plugin folder from the watchfolder I can start c4d without issues.

is there something I overlooked or need to do to get it running?

There is a known issue in c4doctane 2024.1.2 and C4D R21 that should be fixed for next update.

okay. found the issue.

I got a v4 license. so the 2024 version is not the correct one to even try.

downloaded the latest v4.05, unzipped and placed it in the plugin folder, removed the other ddls that point to older releases.
octane does not start and gives me a black message about missing subscriptions or licenses, while on the license page it clearly states 'available'.

I still got the older laptop and tried it there - c4d+octane starts without issue, I can render in octane, during which time the otoy license page indicates that the license is in use and when i close c4d again the license is available again.
on the new laptop I cannot get it to start, I get the missing subscription error. what do I have to do to activate it on the new laptop so i can use it, even if it is an old version?

about new laptop, please consider that OctaneRender v4 doesn't work with recent GPUs like RTX 30X0, 40X0, 50X0.

V4 was based on CUDA 10, and cannot be rewritten to adopt new hardware.

Please try to install the following recent demo version on new laptop top see if it works as expected in C4D R21:
