Material selections broken

Attached scene has a camera with a black material and a small polygon selection for the glass lens material. The material selection is completely ignored and the entire camera renders as glass.

Not sure what's the problem there, but it's fixed when I re-assign material and selections as in this scene.

It affects all existing projects. Which means our entire library 1000s of models is currently broken.

Looks like the main problem is a pitfall with latest UV set revisions and meshes when have empty UV coordinates.
