OctaneRender 2024.1 for Houdini production (2024.1.0.1)

This is a production release of the OctaneRenderâ„¢ 2024.1.0.1 for Houdiniâ„¢ plugin compiled with the Octane 2024.1 core. This 2024.1.0.1 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.5.805, 20.0.751, 20.5.278, 20.5.332, 20.5.370.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only default Houdini builds are supported.
This means that for Houdini 20.0 and 20.5, gcc11.2 builds are supported, and for Houdini 19.5, gcc9.3 build is supported.

New features
To learn more about the new features and improvements of OctaneRender 2024.1, please check out the 2024.1 release post

Known bugs
On Linux, MPlay IPR may not be working. If you are having problems with it, please switch to QT5 IPR and disable "Render to MPlay" in ROP nodes.
Octane is still working on supporting OCIO V2.3 (the version that Houdini 20.5 uses). The workaround for now is to use the Houdini 20.0's OCIO files when you use Houdini 20.5. e.g. You can use 20.0.751's OCIO file by adding the below line in your houdini.env file for Houdini20.5.

Code: Select all

OCIO = "C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 20.0.751\packages\ocio\houdini-config-v1.0.0_aces-v1.3_ocio-v2.1.ocio"

It had sounded like LiveViewer navigation (similar to C4D) was going to be available in this release as seen in my attached screenshot. Any update on this?

Hi Ryanaexavier, please take a look at this release note: viewtopic.php?f=102&t=84046
It might be a little bit confusing.
2024.1.0.0 includes all features/fixes in 2023.1.3.5. And then 2024.1.0.1 is an update based on 2024.1.0.0.

When using DOP Solvers, octane renders non-existent geometry. It's the same when rendering to disk.

Hey there, I have tested the file in both the 2023 and 2024 releases and I don't see that geo being added at all.
Did you build that scene from a previous scene or from a larger scene? Whatever was causing it doesn't seem to happen my side.

I will get another internal user to test too but if any other user can confirm, that would be great! Thanks!

I've built it in a new scene.

I opened the test scene and everything was fine at first.
These are the steps i did to reproduce the bug:
Go to geo1 and create a RBD Bullet Solver sop and plug the sphere into the first input > start render > scrub timeline

Ok thanks, we will look into this.

switching materials inside material builder doesn't cause updates in the IPR. cancelling renders to disk causes full houdini crash.

We should have some IPR-update 'updates' in the next build. This will cover some stuff like SOP and obj changes, adding new geo, deleting and undoing. The materials seem to be updating better too.

As the cancelling render from ROP during render to disk, I still can't reproduce that issue.

It's random, might be also related in some extent to the denoiser being ON.
Also I am coming back to H20 because 20.5 suck big time, will check how Octane will perform there, 'cause I had issues with DOP cooking or rendering to disk cooking a DOP that shouldn't be cooked in 20.5 etc.
I reported it a while ago I remember
