Hi,
Your Octane render is very good.
I need these features for real production work on projects.
1. Plugin for 3ds max (support material editor, render settings etc (click on render and max export geometry, materials, render settings to octane))
2. Support Animation from max (moving camera, is very important for archviz animation)
3. Better control over glossy materials and reflections etc (be able set minimum value of refrection to 0, I set minimum value now and is always intense)

Octan render will be better than arion

Nice work

1. Plugin for 3ds max
Not until a long time, or someone else could write one
The Octane scene files (OCS) are like XML with all the render settings
Someone who know how to code maxscripts or plugins can write OCS files already
But Refractive Software are too busy on Octane core features to start working on a plugin
2. Support Animation from max
Animation is planned by using file formats
Collada 1.4 support it, FBX too, and RIB also
3. Better control over glossy materials and reflections
The fresnel setting is missing that's why your material always reflect something
More controls over materials and more nodes are planned
Octane render will be better than arion
Well, this will need quite a lot of time... but who knows

Could you let me know, the Octane scene files format?
I'd like to write it.

Its not documented yet
But you can already open one with text editor and learn ;)

Hi,

OCS is not a file format that's to be used.
it's a low level dump of the octane user interface.

there's no point in learning it or developing stuff for it.
we will use RIB and collada instead for these.

I have Arion, and I prefer Octane already :)

All i need to be able to use this for my work is:-

1. proper export / import (FBX, Collada etc) + ability to work in Octane, edit the scene in 3dsMax, reexport to Octane and not have to re-configure all my cameras & materials.
2. basic features like bump maps etc
3. ability to create & save multiple cameras inside of Octane
4. + all the other improvements that we know are coming...

All that & keep the same amazing performance !

PM me some full size screenshots of the UI

This is planned, I think Octane will check the file for changes, and when a change is made it will automatically reload
I don't know how its possible for materials. All software are different, they manage assets in a different way
But im sure we will find a way to also reload textures etc...
2. basic features like bump maps etc
Bump map + Normals maps are coming very very soon ;)
3. ability to create & save multiple cameras inside of Octane
Its planned also I think, multiple camera nodes that's what you mean ?
So they are all saved in the OCS file
4. + all the other improvements that we know are coming...
Yup this gonna be awesome
All that & keep the same amazing performance !
The performance will increase with MLT and light portals

Curiouse how the light portals will be managed/created ? Inside octane, inside 3d software (geometry planes with light portals option set "ON") or some automated process that sees the light coming from example windows and guide the light inside of an interior?

At first it would be planes inside the 3D software I think, using the normals for the direction
Octane could see that its light portals based on the object name or based on the material assigned to them in the 3D software

I see. At some point fryrender had light portals, but with future builds the need of portals was unnecessary, mostly from core optimizations. Are we gonna expect that from Octane. Least we need its more object to create and handle. Another, more like wishlist is direct lightning mode, can this be separate in two modes - first mode will be like we already have, second mode will simulate flash light from camera (like in fry and maxwell, direct light source above the camera)?
