Rectangular Light new Texture Slot.

What is the difference between the new option for the texture slot in a rectangular light and the texture slot that's already in the base properties of the light? Also, when should one be used versus the other?

Thanks for the post..
The new option for texture is using the light emission Octane Distribution, however, the texture slot in the base property is not implemented.
