Hello,

I am new to the Octane world and wanted to ask if anyone can tell me if there is a difference in speed or performance between Octane X Enterprise Subscription and (Free) Octane X Prime Edition.

I am using a MacBook Pro M2 Max with 64 GB Ram and want to get the most out of it with Octane.

Thanks :D

Hi,

OctaneX Enterprise Subscription is the old version for Mac with AMD GPUs, and doesn't work well with Apple Silicon GPUs.

You need OctaneX Prime for your MacBook Pro M2 Max.
Latest stable version is based on 2023.1.3 SDK.

There is a difference in speed and efficiency. The Enterprise Edition supports the use of multiple GPUs, allowing for significant processing speed increases over the Prime Edition, which is limited to a single GPU. Additionally, Enterprise offers advanced features such as large graphics support, network rendering, and cloud usage for heavier projects.

This is not properly true for macOS/Apple Silicon versions.

All OctaneRender 2024.1 versions for macOS/Apple Silicon have both Network Rendering and RNDR/Render Network support.

Multi GPU is not necessary, since Apple Silicon can have only one GPU inside, while Network Rendering is a game changer:

Enterprise versions have been discontinued from some time now, and replaced by Studio+ versions.

Prime versions have the exact same features as Studio+ versions, only feature missing is LiveDB, but there is a workaround for subscribers:

Studio+ for macOS/Apple Silicon is going to arrive soon.
