OctaneRender 2024.1 Beta 2 for Houdini production (2024.1.Beta_2.0)

This is a Beta release of the OctaneRender™ 2024.1.Beta_2.0 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2024.1 Beta 2 core. This 2024.1.Beta_2.0 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.0.720, 19.5.805, 20.0.506, 20.0.547, 20.0.590, 20.0.625, 20.0.653, 20.0.688, 20.0.724.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux, this OctaneRender Houdini plugin release starts to support cxx11 ABI (gcc 11.2) Houdini 20 builds (the default Houdini 20 builds). For a start, this release provides H20.0.688 and H20.724 Cxx11 ABI plugin builds, and this release still provides all gcc 9.3 builds for Houdini 20.

You can install Houdini 20 gcc9.3 builds by the latest Houdini Launcher or download and install them from the downloads page:

We would like to remove the gcc 9.3 builds eventually, so please give the new gcc 11.2 builds a go and report any problems you run into.

Known bugs
On Linux, MPlay IPR may not be working. If you are having problems with it, please switch to QT5 IPR and disable "Render to MPlay" in ROP nodes.

* PLUGIN FEATURES AND FIXES:
- Updated to use OctaneSDK 2024.1 Beta 2
- All the fixes/improvements in 2023.1.3.1 are also included in this release.

Common Issues and Solutions
- If the plugin doesn't work at all, set HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2 in houdini.env and check for messages in the terminal.
- If you're missing libglut.so.3, install the freeglut package.
- If you are having any issues with the Deadline - please submit a support ticket to the AWS.

Hi there,

I already reported the following bug in the previous release but unfortunately didn't find time to send you a demo scene. Finally here it is - just reduced it as much as possible, since I'm not allowed to share the real scene but it still shows the issue. Here's the scene:

And the problem described in more detail:
I have two analytic lights.

LIGHT A looks like this:




LIGHT B looks like this:




But if I turn on both lights, it doesn't look correctly:




I can increase samples of the light that looks more off but it still doesn't look quite like the individual lights:




And if I increase the samples of that light too much, suddenly the other light starts looking more off:





This seems only to be the case, as long as I use Transmission/SSS.

Thanks for the plugin improvements!
We have a beta access to Houdini 20.5, the sneak peek with the awesome new features was released today. I am wondering, could you provide a compiled plugin for 20.5 builds? Or we have to wait after the final release?.. (Some other engines already provide the beta for 20.5 for a while )

We are looking into it, hopefully we can get a 20.5 build out to you guys relatively soon.

not sure if this is possible but it would be great if the compositing network nodes had (much simplified) wrappers or something inside the new COPs to invoke the AOVs&denoiser. Or there should at least be some workarounds to allow exporting any AOVs directly into the new COPs which excites me the most

Not entirely sure if we can incorporate COP, would have to investigate - some things may not be compatible either I'd imagine.
