Hello :)

I wish i can make hot gas effects or mirage with particles or VDB.

When i select Medium volumes it is ok to make smoke or fire and clouds but if i wish a transparent gas effect there are no refractions setting or nodes to accomplish that in my Octane version 2021.7 on Lightwave.

I have search all over the web for a way to create that effect with other 3d software with more recent version of Octane but it seems impossible to do...

I know i can do in post effect with some compositing softwares but i wish to use TurbulenceFD generated particles..

Here is an example of what i want to do:
Jet exhaust heat and flames...

Thanks for your advices

You might be over thinking it. You can do a very convincing fake with a horizontal, cylindrical lens (it might be a half cylinder, I don't remember) using a specular material, facing ratio falloff + animated noise to drive the opacity, Transmission of 1, and Reflectivity of 0. By altering the size and distance of the cylinder, as well as squashing the cylinder out of round, you can dial in the effect pretty easily. It definitely helps a lot to have a good real-life reference. As long as your POV is more or less at ground level, it works well and is quick to render.
