Redshift conversion

Redshift is now, for all intents and purposes, C4D's new render engine. It comes pre-installed with all C4D installations. More and more C4D assets are generally being offered only with RS materials, not the old standard/physical engine materials. The problem here is that the only conversion tool is from the old abandoned render engines to Octane, not from RS to Octane. I know ion the past we haven't done third party engine to Octane conversion because there's too many of them, but now RS is the standard C4D engine.

Could we get a RS to Octane converter? I would settle for the basics, just bring in the diffuse, normals, bump etc and any basic colours. This will at least give us a starting point and all the correctly applied materials for us to then improve and finish off.

We will put it to our list.

any news on this? it's becoming more prominent as c4d will now create default RS Materials for all the files imported to c4d (fe CAD data)
Now that octane and redshift both use standard material setup 99% of the values could be translated 1:1... small differences for setups of layer nodes+mix modes which require the OSL Layer in octance afaik.

Agreed, this is a nontrivial problem.

I love octane more than redshift. If an easy conversion solution appears, I'm pretty sure that a lot of old octane users will comeback. The node system if not as nice and as optimal as octane. Please make a big anoucement when this will be lauch. :) Good luck!

Bump. This is important

It's on table, no rush please! Good to see your impatience and feedbacks, especially for our node editor's effectiveness.

I agree with the way the industry is putting out assets these days ….either octane needs to become way more visible than it is ….or you need a good conversion utility sooner than later! - This needs to be bumped up the ladder as far as priorities go

It's 2 years later now, and every single C4D-Octane user had to put more effort into converting Materials manualy, than it should be the effort of an experienced Coder to write at least a basic material converter for the most basic chanels.

Now there are these great Laubwerk trees includet - and they are about useless for Octane-Users, since the converter isn't working.

Don't wont to pressure too much - but at this point, this is going to be a make or break-issue.

I totally agree!!! - with maxon nerfing the trees by not giving out anything but redshift this is bs! - This sucks
you all should be testing against these assets when doing material conversions at the very least!!!!
