[2022.1] Core bug

"Hide the unused compatibility settings in the kernel panel" was listed as a "fix", while being a bug

No, really guys, who thought changing the way sRGB textures convert to wavelengths in 2022 would be a good idea? The result does not match pre 2022 and it doesn't look okay. Especially when backward compatibility support was announced as a feature of the new 2022 core upgrade, but in reality was just cut out. Looks like a false advertisement tbh.

It's available in Standalone as well in other plugins. I'm not sure why the developers removed it in Octane for Blender.

Compatibility setting have gone under some big change in Standalone. Right now no plugin is implementing those.
We're looking into implementing those in Octane for Blender.

C4D plugin has this setting. Is it a dummy switch?

If it's there and it's working, it has probably been added recently, which is good.
