Soft2Octane 2.52 [Obsolete]

The next generation is done...

Changes in ths version:
  • Now it is possible to save the rendered images to the new image file formats png8/16 and exr un-&tonemapped.
    If you need to render with an old Octane version, you can check the "Use Octane pre 2.50" checkbox under the Misc tab.
    The image name is automatic changed to png. If you uncheck the option and exr is selected as format, the image name is changed to exr.
    Also the image input has a logic. After a click of browse, it is enought to write in the image name, the extension will automatic changed to the format you have chosen.
  • You can now tell Octane, how many digis the image name should have.
    Default 0 means, if your anim is 100 frames, the leading zeros are automatic set. Example is 001, 002...010, 011...099, 100.
    If you render from frame 0 to 99, the result is 01, 02...99.
    You see the problem when you need to rerender frame 1-50 from an animation which has 100 frames.
    For that you can change the digits to 1 and become the same result as the 100 frame animation.
  • Strands with different length can now have the same size. I don´t know why, but i think the implementation of instance shapes in MentalRay is insufficient.
    You can activate the option under the Misc tab. The option is called "Normalize Strand Size".

Fixes:
  • Skip rendered frames should now work. Also with digits and extensions...
  • Normals for deformed ICE-Animations should also work, at least what i had tested.

I was using 1.022 and I just finished to install this version and I can see it´s better!

Hey face,

thanks for the release. It just came in time, now i can render my animation in 16bit, yeah!

Everything's working so far, the skip render is working again.

But i just had the same "problem" which i mentioned earlier with the export animation. You have to render at least one frame of an animation and let it export before you can use the "export camera only" option. For me it's ok this way, but maybe you could add a checkup. That when you activate the "export camera only" option he first checks if an "filename_anim.obj" and "filename_anim.mtl" exists, if not he exports it once. Don't know if that is possible.

Not sure if this is a problem with your exporter, with Octane or my computer. When rendering an animation octane "crashes" sometimes. The animation export in Softimage is active but there is no active octane window, i can see one Octane instance in the task manager. When i quit the task, a new octane instance comes up but without window again. I then had to cancel the animation export in Softimage, and voila Octane starts and renders.

It doesen't happen this often, last time it broke after 10 hours non stop exporting/rendering.

It should be possible ;)

Hm, i think this issue is realy hard to find.
Where you see the Octane instance in the task manager, in the applications or in the processes tab?

In the process tab and i think that it only used 3.8mb ram and no cpu (not 100% sure), so it seems that it was idle.

Hy Face!

I´m having trouble to export textures from softimage to Octane with this plugin version.

My textures do not open.

Something has changed?

Not realy...
Maybe the first export was without a texturemap?
Or you has changed someting?
The problem is that Octane read the materials/textures only one the first export.
After that, Octane reads it from the ocs-file...

I really don´t know what I´m doing Wrong. Maybe you can help me with this.

I posted a photo with a comparison of two versions of plugins.

The Current and 1.022f

All the paths for export are the same, but, with the old one I can export images. With this new version I can´t.

I remember, I was having this same problem with this 1.022 version, the you send me a .dll file to put in addon folder and the problem was fixed.

Maybe could be the same problem?

Ah, i see.
I have changed since 2.48c the programm structur. I think i have missed to transfer a variable...
