Hi RS, I congratulate you for your expertise, tenacity and determination ... in such a short time you were able to catch up with more or less successfully the major tenors ... However, I regret two things in particular ... The user base octane is made mostly of fans ..... I like octane, but two things hinder me: the interface and material management ... these two things very slow in my opinion the new users who come from elsewhere ...
My respects to you all ...

I totally agree, the material editor is a total mess, unreadable. It needs a total redesign.

Hmm, I don't agree. I like the UI and Material Editor. Look at other Software like Maxwell, they are messed up.
Octane has a different approach. I enjoy.

Hm, I thought the video would be about propositions for a new, better interface. You just can't create a thread with such a title and not propose one single improvement.
Well, I have been detailing features how to improve the material creation management (focused on node workflow), for so long now that I feel almost as a troll...

Maxwell has a great material editor. Studio has a easy to learn UI also.

I am a older Fryrender user and maxwell render, was not to RS offending team that I do not propose. However, I recognize that the interface
this software can be very productive ... The octane quality is not up concerned could be offered in two versions suggest pros (current) beginner
(close conccurents). Just as the interface materials.

You have to say what's wrong with it though.
Matej is right. Just saying "new interface please" isn't very helpful.
I dont understand why you waited so long to be critical of it if you think it is so poor?
A lot of people have made suggestions for all sorts of improvements and we need to be patient.
Some how I don't see a rehash of the whole ui arriving for a quite a while even if there was agreement about the need for it.
There are other priorities I think. People want instances and sss and...
They are improving the ui and tools here and there as they go.
Personally I rarely use the node editor since my scenes and materials are quite basic.
I would be happy just to get copy and paste a material in the render view.
Perhaps it would help for those people who have specific needs for say archviz work to get together and work out which few improvements would be most helpful for their workflow for them at the moment and make a request.
I am sure Refractive are receptive to feedback but you have to be realistic about what can be done by a small team of coders at this time.
If the improvement you want is specific and a good idea I am sure they are interested in doing their best to satisfy their customers..

That's why I haven't said anything, I know a redesign is not priority at all, and it's a lot of work for such a small team. I have been critic about it in the past though... but, some day we could start a discussion on specific stuff. (I don't want to feel like I'm trolling either)

This is the price of success, it only asks more than the best .... and RS is already one of the best ....

i too don't agree (to the initial statement); i found the material editor of octane to be extra easy to learn and very intuitive, at least compared to others i know (3ds max - vray [horrible], c4d, thea). and from the screenshots i've seen from maxwell, this specific one doesn't look extra intuitive or somehow outstanding to me - it's just like any other material editor out there.
if you already know a specific editor very good, you'd of course like to have octane work the same way. but that doesn't necessarily mean it'd then be be easier for (other) new users which may have completely other experiences already...
