Material slots are not octane

Hi,
Why are material slots not native octane materials every time I open a new scene? I have 3ds max 2023.3
When I hit convert slot mat they are black and now preview. And this has to be done every time a new max is opened.

Hi coilbook,

Check in Render setup / Common / Assign Renderer:
Both Production and Material editor should be set to OctaneRender..

Somehow the lock seems to be disabled for some files, so the Material editor renderer is not set to Octane..

I used to save myself a default.max for years now, which gets loaded with the launch of 3ds max. So you have a personal setting ready to work with as soon as 3ds max is ready.
