*Resolution at bottom of chain*

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for reading into my issue.

This crashing problem started a few days ago, out of the blue. No major changes I can think of, but everything was working, then a few crashes, then total failure over the course of a few days.

Mac 11.5.2
3.6GHz 8-Core Intel i7
64GB 2667 DDR4
Radeon RX 6900XT 16GB
Octane X Studio PR11 installed and it sees my AMD card.
Maxon One Account (so I can run any version of C4D. I've tried 21, 22, 23 given my OS)

Octane Bench 2020.1.5 says it finds no supported GPUs. Are AMDs not supported by Octane Bench, or is that a part of the ensuing problem?

I am running into a wall every time I install and load Cinema and Octane. Any version compatible with my OS will crash when Octane is in the Plugins folder. All the other version files are deleted from the respective folders, so that isn't it. I have downloaded everything fresh and tried again, but still the same result.


Let me know if I can answer any further questions to help figure this out.
And note, I may try reinstalling my OS next.

UPDATE:

Reinstalled Big Sur.

At least R22 was able to open at all - the other versions (21, 23) would still not get past the initialization process.

Regardless, R22 crashes with the same error as before: The plugin liboctane.dylib has crashed.

UPDATE #2:

Moved over to my Late 2019 MBP running Monterey. Installed C4D R23 and Octane - still crashes occasionally, but was able to at least work for a while. Attaching Bug Report from the most recent crash that occurred when starting the Octane Viewer.

Note - I installed Octane's folder to the Plugin directory found under "preferences" link.

Any help is appreciated!

Cinema R21 & R23 won't get past the initialization splash pages, so I can't get you that extension folder. Take a look at the Crash Reports below (top segments only).

Attaching 2 images - both are the APP paths you dropped in your message to me.

Ok, I have answered you via PM.

In short, there were several unsupported versions installed, to solve, since you are under macOS Big Sur, you need to install C4D-OctaneX-PR11 in C4D S24.

RESOLVED

I had created a folder named "Plugins" as opposed to "plugins" (note the case sensitivity).

The file I created still occasionally crashed, so I copied my elements into a fresh scene (had to do this a few times as I iterated forward) and this seemed to resolve crashing. Once I finalized my scene, I can render.

Also, I had the C4D 2023 instead of R23 xlib file.

Furthermore, I upgraded out of Big Sur to Monterey, which allowed me to run R25.
