Is OTOY planning to make Octane an Add-On as opposed to its own Blender build for OSX users?

Yes, for any platform.

I would just be happy if I could run the latest version on my Intel Mac. It appears that Intel Macs are no longer supported.

My understanding is that it was tricky working with some of the open source code in Blender while maintaining functionality with proprietary Otoy code. A custom compile was a workaround, but apparently they have since found a better way. Yay!
