Hello everyone,

I really want to hear news about future node system changes.
Can we use Cinema 4D node system in the future? If we can when it will be happen?

Xpresso node interface is so hard to work with as you all know especially complex materials.
Personally for a long time I've been waiting for a news about switching to new Cinema4D node system.
(I've recently saw Arnold update and just watching it made me so relieved so I hope we can use it too and soon)

please give us information about this topic I hope it is possible to share.

thank you

What are talking about exactly? Show us the example you are mentioning about it.

I feel like the node system we already have is so well integrated with Octane it's been very nice to work in. I think RS really needs to use this new interface as their old nodes were a pain to use.

We have a native node editor as said and I cannot see any reason to change something.

UI is very important and there are problems about that.
If you don't see "anything" it is okay that is a formal answer and it just shows another problem.

Formal? We have full control of our Node editor. You don't have much idea to about potential problems of trying to switch to C4D Node Editor. In case will have endless problems to overcome. I'd love to have this node editor since years before I wrote my editor. Thanks!

The last time this subject came up, forward compatibility was a significant issue. It would be great to have Octane nodes and C4D nodes all living in the same work space and happily swapping data channels, but that would mean there'd need to be a hard break between versions. It's not practical to have to manage two different UIs that interact with the C4D SDK in significantly different ways, and there's no guarantee that any kind of translation from old nodes to new nodes would be practical, or even possible.

If/when it happens, it's going to many some people happy, and a lot of other people very mad, and on the C4D side, there's that other 800lb gorilla in the room, Redshift, to consider. The thing that made us go with Octane several years ago was the compatibility between Maya and C4D, our two main 3D tools. Redshift had been making "soon, soon!" noises for every, and we finally couldn't wait to make the jump to a GPU based renderer. If Octane makes customers take a big leap and lose forward compatibility, they may very well decide to jump the OTOY ship entirely.

It's a tricky, messy situation Ahmet and Otoy find themselves in when it comes to Octane for C4D. I don't envy them or the decisions they have to make about how to move forward in such a competitive and quickly changing market space.

Functionality can be improved if it's the matter. Transition to C4D node editor is a completely different story. I think many people is not aware of this: Our node editor is not putting any extra layering to make nodal view. It's SIMPLY a material editor by using current material data structure. Just in a different presentation.

I'd love to see Maxon could do same without collapsing the walls. Their implementation is requiring to write all shaders again with a new concept. Also we have mix/composite materials, that may not work in that. And transition is not possible unless having a BIG free RISKY period. We cannot guarantee that all goes well. That's all a BIG SADNESS on my side. Also lack of the making better viewport materials are another disappointment for me.

All in all I watched the OTOY GTC re-cap and I see the work you are doing! You and the team are killing it and should be proud! The new Comment function and the Noise4D additions are amazing! Once grouping and maybe a re-route node are added fully, things will only be better! I'm excited for what you all come up with! :D
