ISSUE:

Character wasnt being viewed or Black (wouldnt show up) from different angles in viewport. I checked to see what was causing it. I was using a Universal Shader. I narrowed it down to figure out the issue and found that when I turned my Specular node to 0, Character looked fine from all angles. At 1, character has a weird specular glitch that Ive never experienced with the 3 yrs Ive been with Octane.

Note, I was using only a Diffuse texture, and no texture in the specular channel or any other channels. I tried it in the Stable version and it seems fine.

Here's a gif of it.

Secondly, Im new to using ACES color space, but Im pretty sure that there was a time that Octane was able to adjust the gamma regardless of color space? If not, then Gamma in Main settings and the Camera settings has been bugged since last stable forward, as it doesnt work in latest dev build or stable builds. I need the gamma so I can adjust Aces levels as for some reason it overly darkens things, probably due to the gamma issue.

Hello, this is to be expected: viewtopic.php?f=88&t=78025&p=403089#p403089

Beware that ACES is not for everything and everyone. It is primarily targeted at large or professional productions with digital imaging technicians despite gaining popularity on internet which also resulted in a mass misconception. ACES requires fundamental knowledge of digital imagery and beyond.

If you are just looking at a way to improve your imagery, ACES is rather inappropriate and better-suited solutions are available (all information are in the forum reply from the URL I linked previously).

It would be recommended to troubleshoot the issue by first double-checking a few elements:
• Geometry / mesh topology,
• Scene-scale (it has to be accurate),
• Shading network: could you share the node network?

Then, going further if needed.

Please post improved information!
- What you mean with "Latest Octane Render Test Build"?
- How can we find your settings? Sample scene is important and a requirement as we write.

Thank you for contribution!

Hi,

Im using Cinema4D version 2020.2.5 (Latest stable) 23.08.2021 currently.

Sorry for a late reply, just got back into the office for testing.

Noticed that this happens with other scenes as well. Its like a specular glitch that is on when the camera is angled just right or is a certain range away from the textured object.

Here are some examples, will send a test scene later today to have you see for yourself.

thanks.

Same scene as before.

Problem stopped, then later in that scene

I went to work on a different character and wasnt happening until it did

Ok waiting for a sample scene. Btw this is a core related topic. I'll investigate if you send a scene.

Again this happens off and on, upon opening to send, it hasn't happened, but maybe it shows while you test

Out of curiosity, was this "troubleshooting rudimentary list" double-checked?

Yep
