What License for Octane X ?

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I haven't used Octane in the last years and I just see that OctaneX for Metal is available. Now, my account says I still have a license for Octane 4.0. I have no idea what 4.0 is?
Can I use it to run an actual build of Octane for Modo ?
Or do I need to upgrade with a maintenance ?

Hi.

OctaneX releases relevant to Modo are as follows:

Octane X release PR8
- available for Modo12-14 with current Octane Enterprise and Studio licenses (ie. Octane 2020 licenses).
- this release is not available for Modo15

Octane X release PR11 (current test build released by OTOY)
- not available for Modo, as there is a conflict between Modo and OctaneX that I have not been able to resolve. OTOY are looking into it.
- if/when this release is available, it will NOT be compatible with Modo15 (as Octane X PR11 matches Octane 2020.1.5, not 2020.2 onwards which work with Modo15).
- Octane X PR11 has a free Enterprise license for Mac Pro users which may be applicable to you.

I hope the above helps.

Thanks Paul. I had to read it 3 times to get at least the idea fo it. PR most stand for Version.
So PR8 is the old one, not for Modo 15 and not for M1 or AMD, but Cuda.
And PR11 will be for Modo 15+ only, with M1 but not AMD support, but currently not working right in Modo.

Wow, thats tricky. I do have all 3 kinds of options here. An M1 Mac, an AMD Mac and Windows with Nvidia. So as Apple going M1 architecture anyway, then M1 is the goal for the future to me. Not planing on investing in a GPU PC at the moment.
In other words, nothing is working for me right now, except Blender doing the job without problems. Thats sad. I really wanted to avoid moving my scenes to Blender first.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is not CUDA - but AMD & Intel and all the other GPU's that OctaneX PR8 supports.

PR11 will be Modo 13, 14 and 15. It will support M1, AMD, Intel, and all other GPU's that OctaneX PR11 supports.

I hope that helps.

I think its clear now. Hope you fix the problem with Modo 15, meanwhile I can check out the Windows version as soon as my account is updated.

Just asking if there is any news. In my account I see a ,macOS (Metal) Octane X PR8 (Big Sur), this is an AMD or ARM build?
Is there currently a ARM build for Modo at all? (PR11 ?)
Any time frame till it comes?

It is an OctaneX build which runs on Big Sur and NON-Cuda cards (ie. it runs on AMD cards). PR11 is not currently working with the Modo plugin, and the issue is currently with OTOY.

Thanks

Thanks Paul. Is there any Email reminder to when this happens? Hopefully before I get an M1max.

I doubt there is an email - suggest checking in on these forums from time to time, or follow OTOY on Facebook/Twitter.

Ok, so today they twittered that PR12 is released with support for the plugins. Nothing about Modo now working.
