Hello,
I've heard a lot about the Anime Kernel but it's not available for Octane C4D yet. Is this planned in the future ? Or will it never happen ?
Thanks!

Hi,
we are still in alpha stage for 2021.1 SDK, the core devs are still working to add all the planned features.
When finished, the Anime Kernel will be available for Standalone and all DCC plugins, c4doctane included.
Happy GPU rendering,
ciao Beppe

Thanks Beppe. Could you explain the difference between the Octane Toon Shading materials, and the Anime Kernel ? Will the Anime kernel replace the toon shading ?

hi,
the Toon Shader works with any Octane kernel (AO, PT, PMC) and it is great, but has issues with edges (plane edges).
Anime Kernel is part of the new Multi-Render system that is going to arrive in 2021.1 SDK (with Brigade, Arnold, Cycle and others):

So it is definitely more complex than a shader node, it brings full raytraced edges, and will be even independent from OctaneRender core.
Happy GPU rendering,
ciao Beppe

It's a whole separate renderer that will sideload into the AOV compositor through a new system being added this year called "multi-render" - this will also be used to load Brigade (DL/info/PT experimental builds during beta), as well as 3rd party hydra render delegates including Cycles, Arnold, Pixar Storm and many others.

it has been a year since this was teased, and seems fairly basic compared to photon kernel caustics, is there an ETA on this? Starting to understand why so many people are frustrated with the OTOY feature release pace

The "joke" here is such inappropriate childish disrespectful behavior, eventually having a pernicious effect on the team.
Frankly, the Anime Kernel is "bonus", so is Brigade, while the actual main product is Octane where all these perks come included, without any price increase - in fact, the opposite happened. It's not as if customers paid for an undelivered product. That animosity and antipathy has no place in this industry. It's not the first time honest developers are being persecuted by "anonymous" users, and that has to stop.
I'm with you about disrespectful behaviour, a 100%. The problem with Otoy though: they are teasing and promising stuff which are considered by customers when deciding to buy their product. I work with octance since v2 and when I hear/see things about "a great feature" which is supposed to come with the next update, I tend to stick with it and am not looking somewhere else. And that's pretty manipulative...
Otoy should just release stuff when it's ready. Tangling the carrot right in front of your face and never let you taste it or relase only a lite version of it just sucks.
