Coffee Pot

Alright so I have a decent amount of this done, but I am now to the point where I need to start buffing out the small details to really make this look real. In particular, I was wondering how do you add realistic fingerprints to something? I tried earlier by using an image for my "reflection", but I feel that it didnt look quite right. The area where I had finger prints also looked squared off, so you could really tell an image was just slapped on. Problem is I need to do it this way, because on a coffee pot you are mainly going to see fingerprints around the buttons/handles, so I can't just unwrap this whole thing and repeat a tiled texture over it; I need to place the prints in specific spots.(seamlessly, without sharp edges revealing the borders of the image itself)
Also I feel that the metal could use some work but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Any other tips on making this look believable would be helpful as well!
Thanks!
EDIT-Alright to basically sum this topic up in a way that people can answer it effectively- What would be a good way to go about texturing this coffee pot? Idk how I would set this up in an effective way in the UV Editor. Also idk where I would put seams/mark sharp etc
also forgot to mention,I'm using Blender 2.59 stable
