Saving LDR 8-BIT Crashes

Howdy,

Myself and another Octane user have been experiencing crashes on the latest build while saving renders when the "Buffer type" is set to LDR 8-bit. Scenes are using the new ACES system but even when "Color space" is set to sRGB, and not OCIO, crashing happens once Octane finishes rendering and is saving the image to disk.

This happens when rendering with the Render Queue and Render to Picture Viewer.

We're attempting to export images that have the new ACES "look"/processing, but don't need to be transformed to sRGB/r.709 after rendering in a compositing program.

I've attached bug report and scene files.

im having the same issue. ive figured out that if its actually the denoiser in my cause, srgb output works ONLY when denoiser isnt running.
weird.

You don't need to use it, stick with "HDR sRGB"

Hi guys,

I am running into the same problem when I set the output to Buffer Typ LDR (8-bit) and Color Space Output - sRGB and I am rendering out the denoised beauty pass. Octane/C4D always crashes - when I deactivate the denoiser it works.
I have set it up like in th GSG video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t3qHtwyWcs

When I render it out in HDR sRGB like suggested from aoktar it is really overexposured like it has doubled the exposure and that render is unusable. It would be super handy to directly render out in sRGB with the ACES look - it works but not with the denoiser, which is really unforunate. Is there any way we can export in the future with LDR in sRGB in the future with the denoiser? Or is there another work around?
That would be really great because the only option I found to export it with the denoiser is by exporting it as an EXR - but to render it out in sRGB I have to go into Fusion or AE and convert it there - which I am not really experienced in tbh.

Sorry what version are you using? Buffer type will not affect the color space. 8-bit is very limited for color depth, not prefered for accurate colors. Show us your scene which causes overexposed colors, I'm curious for that

I use 2020.2.3
And as julianc said that octane always crashes when use denoise in LDR buffer type / output-srgb color space.
I just want to know how can I save the 8/16 bit png with the same color like octane live viewer windows.
The following output-srgb picture using the SETTING,but different with the ACES-SRGB picture.
The ACES-SRGB picture is the live viewer windows Screenshots.
So can someone tell me.
:D :D :D

And I know it can save acescg color space use EXR and convert it to srgbcolor in After Effect.
But I think the EXR file is too large.Sometime an EXR file (just one beauty pass )have 20+ MB

ACES is in linear colorspace. Png is having embedded sRGB color profile for my knowledge. So trying to use PNG for ACES that's wrong decision. It's causing double color transformation when loaded which is giving wrong results. So use EXR with a better compression options, don't say you didn't try it.
Also Using 8-bit buffer that's just giving losts on color details. No need to change buffer type if you don't know what you do. It's just for using less memory and 8-bit color conversion by internally in octane side.
I'll disable 8-bit buffer type if you are using 'copy denoised beauty'. Because it is not fixable for now

I chosse PNG just because EXR file is too big and After Effect use EXR too slow. :D :D :D
Thank you for your answer. And I 'll choose the EXR

Thanks for your help aoktar.

I actually found a really good tutorial that shows how to use ACES with EXRs correctly in After Effects. In case any of you guys are interested, it starts at minute 17:42. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uY4-bPvRKs
