Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 2020.2
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 64-bit on Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 419.17 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 2020.2.1

Changes since version 19.9:
  • Implemented the vertex-colors support for Ornatrix hair.
  • Implemented the workaround: now Maya doesn't store the Octane viewports' "enabled" state in the scene file. This eliminates the scene translation immediately after opening.
  • PNG-16 is now saved in SRGB space if no OCIO config was selected (was linear before).
  • Camera's aperture-edge range is fixed.
  • Fixed the bug: RTX on/off didn't change the currently active setting in some conditions.

Hello, i have a big problem when merging in Maya two or more projects with the same octane render materials. Probably it has something to do with the plugin, i don't know, but i've tested using Maya standard materials, and when importing it detects that there are materials already in the project that are the same to the project that is being imported, and it prompts you to load the same material as new material, or use the existing material.

We are working with a large group of Maya artists with Octane Render plugin, and it's going to save us a lot of work if the Octane Material behaves the same way like Maya standard materiales, i mean, prompting when there are existing materials, to load or to use them, so that the same material shares all related objects and groups.

Please tell me if there is a way or workaround to solve this.

Best

Oscar

Hi Mrfactory,

Thank you for the post.

We tried File>Import and merged a file few times and the Octane Materials renamed automatically!!
Would it be possible to share a sample scene and step-by-step reproduce sequences?

Cheers

Not sure if it's the same in other versions before this one but if I have a transform node plugged into an OctaneImageTexture, which has an HDRI image for the SunSky Environment, it takes a ridiculously long time to modify attributes to "rotate" the texture.

For example, I want to rotate an the HDRI image in TranslateX, it takes 10 times longer to update in the viewport/IPR render window, the version I used before which was "OctaneRender_VRE_for_Maya_2020.1.5_-_17.28.exe", it would update really fast as it should almost instantaneous.

i think this is an octane core issue.
