Octane for Houdini - How to render volumes?

Hi,
I'm trying out the octane demo for houdini and I just can't figure out how to render volumes. What I did so far:
1. Created a new scene.
2. Clicked on the Octane Shelf on "Octane", "RTarget" and created a new camera.
3. I added a torus to the scene and creates an explosion with the Pyro FX Shelf.
4. I added a simple grid to the scene.
5. In the Shop context I created a volume material and a simple diffuse material. I dragged the volume material on the Explosion and the diffuse material on the plane.
6. I started the octane IPR. The grid will be rendered, but the volume won't.
7. I also tested it with a simple sphere that I turned into a volume with the iso offset node (I used "density" here) but this volume also doesn't show up in the rendering.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance and best regards
