Fireflies HDR

So, are these fireflies unavoidable when using HDR lighting ?
Can you add a texture as a background image without it lighting the scene ?

These fireflies are here because of the lack of MLT currently.
You can improve by checking your roughness ammount on glossy materials (if lower than 120 = fireflies)
With the mesh emmiters it will be possible to light the scene without using an HDRI at all

these are indeed normal, but the amount in your render is way too much,
so as Sam said, check your glossy materials roughness > 80 minimum and also see if you have any glass materials with wrong normals.
you should be able to find the culprit fairly quickly with some experimentation on the materials.
