Zdepth always far out of spec, (WHITE)

I recall a post concerning this topic and im not entire clear on its solutions.

As the title goes, every time i export a zdepth my renders are blasted white. nothing in comparison to what im seeing in the IPR which makes it impossible to adjust its setting properly.

I render in Linear but view in srgb. My gamma response is neutral and i dont use tone mapping as not to alter my output.
I am requested by our compositor and colorist not to use tone mapping.

so.. i ask what is the solution. Am i to use an extreme value to bring things in visual scope?

And oh im exporting exr.

The final not tonemmaped zdepth pass is a floating image storing distances in the scene units. Any value above 1 unit is going to be seen as white by default in any image package, but the depth information is there.
