Covid Network Rendering workaround

Hello!

Covid 19 has forced me to move my workstations to my home and with this, some complications have come up. The one that has brought me here is trying to figure out how to get around my slow wifi seed and get a quick connection to my render node. I do not have access to my modem/router in the building - after poking around the internet I found a possible solution that I wanna vet here.

Is it possible to link 2 computers via ethernet/lan cable and run network rendering through that?

Any clarification / resources would be incredibly appreciated ! Thank you!

you will need a special made network wire to link two PC without a hub or switch, which is different to the normal wire.

Yeah Jimho is right, but depending on how your systems are setup, it might be easier to just get a cheap router and hook the computers through it. That way the router will provide LAN IPs with DHCP, get access to the WAN (if needed), DNS, etc.

That special wire is known as “crossover cable”.
