RAW render pass?

What's the purpose of this pass? The documentation is very poor in this matter:
"Raw rendering allows more control over the final look in post-production. Toggling Raw passes does not restart the render."
What can I achieve more using this? Are there any examples?

I haven't tried it out but it sounds like a RAW pass that is basically not tonemapped and without the gamma corrections baked in. Basically, it is ready for full 32 bit, linear workflow style post-production. At least thats what I think it does, like I said, I haven't tried it out :)

Strangely enabling the RAW pass does not show anything. Is it a bug?
