OK, so I've stored some materials to the Live DB manager so I can use them in different projects. However when I download the materials into another project the materials and their assets ( image textures )
load in no problem, but they don't show on the material until I go into the C4D project asset inspector and manually re-link them all.

Any idea why this might be happening, and is there a fix for it?

Did you try to work on a saved project? Otherwise it will download files to temporal location and cannot find if you save your scene after that
