Mix Texture driving me crazy!

Right - so here is my dilemma,
For some reason, I am having bad results with mix texture that is driving me crazy!
At first I thought it was the dirt node that I had controlling the amount, but I soon found out that it didn't matter if I used a fall-off, float or texture driven, half of the texture shows up as white (same texture for both material inputs, one color corrected to green, one black).

The strange thing is though, 99% of the time it works fine in my live viewer, but when I go to render, instead of black, it renders white?

What am I doing wrong or what is the problem? I have tried just about everything,from different nodes, ray ep -what am I missing?

Is it just this scene, or mix textures in general? What troubleshooting have you done?

If you've already done all the troubleshooting you can think of, share an ultra-simplified scene that demonstrates the problem, and you'll probably get some good feedback.
