octane.dll has crashed because of absolut texture paths

I am working on a scene for some weeks now. I always use absolut texture paths. It worked fine, until suddenly octane crashes if i
a) press render or
b) go to the node editor to edit certain materials.

Octane.dll has crashed...

After some hours i finally figured out whats causing the crashes: the absolute texture paths. I dont use any search paths in C4D. If i save the scene with assets, the texture paths are converted to relative paths. With these relative paths it is working again. But obviously that is not the solution i am looking for. I need to work with absolut paths.

I already tried out the last 4 studio drivers, octane 2018, 2019.14, 2019.15 and 2020. I also deactivated all other plugins. It seems to be an Octane issue. I need to work on my scenes, and they worked perfectly until from one day to the next Octane got super buggy. I literally changed nothing. Not in the scene, not in C4D, no windows update. I can even reproduce the crash, if i simply open a single asset with the absolute paths.

Do you have any idea how to solve it?

I did a system recovery now. The recovery point was set to early january. At this point everything was working. Now with the recovered system i still got the bug.

If i open single assets from my library, i can reproduce the crash to 100%. Just when i open the node editor of the materials or press render. On the other hand, if i create new materials with the exact same textures and absolute texture paths, everything is working. I have no clue wtf is going on...

Hi,
please, go yto c4doctane Settings/Others panel, disable the Texture Caching option, and report back, thanks.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I deleted the texture cache and it worked.

But this can't be an ongoing solution, right? Octane is crashing because of its own texture cache. What can we do to prevent it?

I'm using it with absolute path and doesn't crash. We cannot say where is the real problem without debug on problematic setup. Every setup is different. Put bugreport.zip as a start and scene.
