Realflow rendering

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can share with me their workflow for rendering realflow elements in c4d octane?
For example, I make a hybrido sim, sea crashing on a lighthouse... I sim core fluid and mesh (the easy part) then make secondaries, saving the abc, bin, rpc etc...
The core fluid/ mesh is easy, import abc mesh, water material. My problems are with the secondaries...
I've tried putting geo on each particle using scatter and using hair, but it always looks like tiny spheres floating on the liquid. I'm new to particle/ fluids rendering so I'm not sure what is and isn't possible, but I'm hoping to achieve something that looks less grainy, as in looks like foam rather than sand.
All help appreciated
Thanks
