Request: Proxys

I just tested out Octane after a break of 3 years and i really love it. The responsiveness is just insane. Since i am doing ArchViz i need to be able to handle massive scenes. I know, i there is the out-of-core-function, but it slows down the performance at some point. I was really surprised when i read there are no proxys for Octane in C4D. The 3ds Max version supports them. (Please no basic tipps how to handle big scenes. Of course i know render instances, display as box and so on...)

Why are there no proxys? ;) It would make things so much simpler in large scenes. It speeds up viewport performance, parsing speed and it makes the .c4d file super thin and quick to save. At this point all major render engines support them, can you please bring them out for Octane? This is crucial for ArchViz artists.

Orbx loader is a kind of proxy. Save your scene or models as orbx and bring back

Yes, i already tried them but they are not saving VRAM or parsing speed. And it is not possible to tweak the materials. So its not really compareable to proxys.

Redshift proxys are speeding up the parsing. Also they ensure that you can put in like 100 - 200 million unique polygons without going out of core. Do you see any chance of getting proxys into the C4D Octane version, since 3ds Max version already supports them?

Yes Please!

Give us real Proxys!

+1 Proxys are lifesaver in some situations. They should work like Octane Scatter compared to regular C4D instancing.

Gave Orbx another try. Always when i switch to another C4D scene and then back again to the scenes with the Orbx (which happens very often as C4D-user), i have to wait like 30 seconds. That is a way too long freezes just to load two Orbx trees. So please please give us real Proxys. :/

There is no way to handle big scenes with Octane right now. Unfortunately, because apart from that Octane is very cool.

Real proxies are a different technology and needs to be added in to Renderer. It's not a feature that can be added in to plugins without that.

But fLuppster said that Octane "3ds Max version already supports them"

Octane has not any proxy support, it's probably same as our orbx loader system. Show me if you think that's different.

As i said, Orbx files are huge. They do not speed up parsing, they do not save VRAM. That is NOT the same as real proxy, sorry. In Octane for 3ds Max there is a difference between Octane Orbx and Octane Proxys btw.

There are even 3rd party proxy plugins available. Even for 3ds Max Octane. ;)
