Hi there, just watched the awesome Houdini 18 Launch presentation and noticed some many mayor renderers get to be integrated into Solaris.
H18 will be released in late 2019, can we expect a timely integration of Octane?

Hi,

The main Houdini plugin will work with H18.0 as soon as it is released, including a proper plugin build for it in the conventional Octane for Houdini releases. About the Hydra plugin, this is a whole new project not related to this plugin, so I don't have more details about it. I know that it is in development, and probably more information about it will be available soon in the main forum or in social media channels.

I'm not sure i understand the hydra render delegate thing in it's entirety yet.....Just installing H18 now.

Does this move essentially render the houdini/octane plugin redundant as it's a direct bridge to octane standalone?

There are going to be two plugins for Houdini, the current main plugin, that will continue working for the conventional Houdini projects, and the Hydra plugin, which is another plugin to be used inside the Solaris USD/Hydra environment. They are different projects. Some people will continue working with the main plugin rendering conventional Houdini projects, while other users will switch to Solaris for lookdev.

Any idea on where we can download the Hydra plugin ? It is shown in th OctaneRender™ 2020.1 XB1 forum presentation, wich got me to upgrade my Octane, but I see no download link.

As far as I know, the Hydra plugin is not available yet for download, but it should be available soon.

The normal 2020 plugin isn’t available either is it? For Houdini I mean.

Nope, sorry. There are no plugins for Octane 2020 yet. We are all working on them
