Best Practice for Skin SSS Maps?

Hello,
I'm trying to control which parts of my human model get subsurface scattering (namely the nose and ears).
The closest I've gotten is using a map that only has red color for the nose and ears in the Transmission Channel. Here are my map and my Scattering Medium Channel: The result, however, is barely noticeable in the beauty pass unless I really increasing the light's power, overexposing everything else in the scene. Is there a better way of doing this? I'd like to be able to see subsurface scattering happening at a lower light power if possible.
Thank you!
