render instance and opacity bug

Hi,
I think I came across a bug.
I created an object with a base material and a second material stacked on top with an opacity map (a decal).
This works fine in most cases.
However in one case it goes wrong.
I think it's a common way to work with render instances:
Put the object with the base material and the decal in a null object which is preview and render invisible. (a so called instance vault)
Next put instances in the scene that are visible.
As soon as these instances are made "render instances" it goes wrong. The base material disappears and the object only shows the decal.
Is this a known bug?
