Hi everyone!

No one says anything about yesterday's great announcement of Otoy at the Apple WWDC19?? :P :P :P .... or maybe I'm just dreaming? :D

https://twitter.com/OTOY

Otoy will have a new version of Octane for Mac called Octane X that work with Metal with any graphic card.
Can any developer present the upcoming news with more detail? :D

Thanks
Steve

They've teased us before, I'd like to be excited, but my dreams have been dashed before.

Update: and now we wait... again.

"Octane X will be available for Mac users to try as a preview release later this year."

Fortunately as a production studio, we are well used to sticking with a stable and reliable, if a bit out-of-date pipe-line, for years at a time. The timing on this might actually work out well.

This is like a bad relationship: https://home.otoy.com/octanerender-3-an ... ap-update/
Broad cross-platform support: Using OTOY’s CUDA cross-compiler, OctaneEngine and OctaneImager is expected to support all possible CPU and GPU devices and platforms, including support for Mac platforms, and AMD GPUs.

I agree, but it's been like this with a lot of production software, at least since the early 90s.

I'm not going to lose sleep over it; life is change, after all, and producing sophisticated tools like these in a competitive marketplace is wickedly complicated. The pressure to ship innovation on the bleeding edge is terrible, and promises often go delayed or completely unfulfilled.

Hopefully there's a difference between, "is expected to support," and, "will be available."

We shall see...

I too am often frustrated because Octane is often unstable and definitely not compatible with the Mac world (through no fault of Otoy)...
But now I really hope that everything can change for the better! I love Octane Render, it's great to work with it!

Hi octane devs! Are you able to give any updates about Octane X for Mac?

How are you finding AMD cards compare with Nvidia in render speed? If you could give us any ideas how octane bench is scoring on AMD that would be great.

Thanks!

now that catalina is out, is there any news? I would love to hear more because I'm quite dependant on the macintosh platform (architect). still on high sierra with two gtx 1070s right now. we are planning to invest in radeon VII if octane will indeed work well with amd in the future.
