Upgraded to all access yesterday, two scenes loaded and both instantly crash on render and ipr, the 2nd crash completely locked up my pc, in fact I couldn't even close the lightwave process in task manager, had to completely reboot my machine, the scene now won't load, three days work down the shitter and why do volume objects look completely different in 2018 than v4????

Think I will be getting my money back and sticking with v4!

Hi,

What plugin version are you using and what drivers version do you have installed in your system? We don't have other reports about these kinds of critical issues with the latest 2018.1 Octane builds, so perhaps the problem is related to your system configuration.

About the volumes, be aware that the volumetrics rendering has been improved in Octane 2018.1, so the rendering can be not the same than in Octane 4, but you have the option "Old Volume Behavior" in the kernel nodes to render the old scenes using Octane 2018.1 without changes in the volume rendering.

Hope it helps,
-Juanjo

Latest 'stable' version of the plugin, latest nvidia drivers 430.86 installed yesterday, I wouldn't say the volumes in 2018 has been improved, everything renders darker than it was in v4. Sorry Juanjo but this is a complete clusterfuck, three scenes that previously loaded fine using v4 are now corrupted and two of them I can't even load 'items from scene'. In fact my system crashed so badly on the last file that I couldn't even shut Lightwave down using task manager and had to completely restart my pc, lightwave was under the impression that it was still rendering and my GTX 1080ti's were going mental with the fans running at full speed and they only stopped when I physically hit the power off button on my PC.

Hmm, all these problems really sound like a system or drivers issue. Can you please revert back to an older NVIDIA drivers version? Here I'm working with the 419.67 drivers without problems so far. Do you know if Octane Standalone 2018.1 has the same kind of problem?

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Right, checking the 'old volume' behaviour in the kernel works and everything renders as it should. Where in the name of all that's holy can I find out what all this new stuff does Juanjo, I can't find any documentation and just when i finally get used to doing something one way you go and change it.

To know that latest features available in Octane (the standalone or the plugins) you can check the main Octane release notes forum posts, for example:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=70809

But you should also check the plugin "release_notes.txt" file, that includes a note for all the new features and bugs fixed included in each plugin build.

Thanks,
