Restricting displacement ?

Anyone know if there is a way to restrict octane displacement to a certain area on an object ? For example, similar to adding a restriction tag to a C4D displacement deformer.
I cant seem to get vertex maps to work with displacement. Preferably, I would like to create a spherical gradient falloff using a vertex map, then use that vertex map to control the location of the displacement so that octane displacement is only occurring in the center of my plane object.
The issue with using a layer shader inside octane displacement is that the image texture does not inherit its transform and scale values after placing it in the layer shader.
Anyone know of any work-arounds or ways of achieving this effect?
Thanks!
