Shadows question

Scene:. simple cube resting on a ground plane. Cube has double sided turned on.
Cube somewhat intersects thru the ground plane.
I setup a layer for the sphere and the ground plane
Layers is set to 'normal'
Ide like to render a shadow pass .
so i activate *all* shadow options.
{Beauty passes} - shadow pass {Layers} Later shadows / Layer Black Shadows / Layer colored Shadows
Alpha shadows turned ON

all passes render, but the area where the object intersects the geometry is cut out instead of being pure black. Literally there is a hole in the alpha, And not simply a hole from where the object intersects..
but where the rest of the object obscures the view of the ground plane, a full object cutout.

how do i prevent this? i just want the shadow without the cutout. Im sure its something simple im getting wrong... any help appreciated

I do have another question for you.
I'm noticing the shadow pass is not being denoised.
Any reason,?
