Instancing, raytrace node and coloring/texturing the instanc

I am trying to setup/convert a lightwave instance scene, using instances streching on the lightness of a picture, and taking the color/luma from a raytrace node.

In the OGL i got what i want in wires, (the instances are there in place and streched as they should. ) but in the IPR i got black , no color on the color plane and no instances....

I must be doing wrong but i dont understand why even the color texture dont show up on the plane, and why i cannot texture the pins.

Hi,

I'm not sure to understand what are you trying to do, but I'm afraid that this workflow using the instance info node inside an Octane material is not going to work for sure. The procedural input can be used to rasterize procedural textures, but the instance info node can't be evaluated at render time by Octane.

Thanks,

but if i know how to achieve this in Lw, i dont know how to do this in octane.. I dont know how to use the raytrace node(/or replace by something) in octane, picking the color from the reference surface in LW

I restarted from scratch and i got the instance in place, the color on the base but i dont understand how to color each instance by the color underneath .
In lightwave system you plug in the raytrace node in, but in octane....?
Anyone know how to do that?

Hi,

Nope, sorry, the LW raytrace node is not going to work with Octane, and I'm afraid that Octane doesn't have a tool like that. You could use a texture map in the instances material, applied in world space, to try to colorize the instances.

Thanks,
