I was recently testing out the cloud data set the Disney provided. The full vdb is nearly 2.7 gb but they have also provided the VDB at varying resolutions. The quarter resolution VDB is about 100 mb . Octane took about 1 min 20 secs to load it. I think this should definitely be improved.

Redshift loaded the half resolution VDB , which is 450 mb, in about 7 secs.

Hi,

We have loaded these assets ourselves a number of times and we always get times of ~1 min loading the full resolution VDB. For the half resolution version we load it in ~5-10s. These are all loading from a local SSD drive.

Could you please try again making sure you are loading the right assets each time? If you can confirm this is an issue for you, could you let us know whether this happens using a specific plugin or if it happens also with standalone and with which version?

I’m trying it with the Houdini plugin. I’ll try it on standalone. I have 2 gtx 1080 ti, just as information.

I tried it in octane standalone, as you said, it loads very quickly, in a few seconds.

The issue is with the Houdini plugin. I’ll post this on the Houdini forum.

same here. I posted like 10 times about slow eval times with multiple grids. This is with max plugin The problem was never solved

"even in older version if you have 4 mil polygons or above evaluation time is quite long compared to version 2.

And using multiple phoenix volume grids even worse. We reported this many many times and still no fix.

Please look bellow how slow evaluation time with multiple phoenix fd grids

5 grids: 3 min 20 seconds to open viewport. Scene size 1.25 Gb of vram

3 grids: 1 min 40 seconds

1 grid: only 20 seconds. File size 0.6 gb. So 5 grids should be evaluated in 1 minute not 3 min 20 sec."

hi when will you fix this on plugin level? 3ds max has same problem with mutiple phoenix grids. I mentioned like ten times . Thanks

As you can see above we can't reproduce this problem yet.

It would seem to me to be a plugin specific issue, we will work with Christophe this week to find out what is happening.

We'll also look into the issues you have posted in the release thread.

Even empty grids slow down eval time.
I mentioned about this a lot. Can you please fix it?
