maya plugin vs stand alone issues

Hi,

im working with several space scenes that are a bit large, i just got the plugin for maya but i cant get it to work properly. every scene im trying to render even the simple lookdev ones are:

1. have huge banding issues - low light kind of banding
- its everywhere : IPR / viewport / render
- r epsilon doesnt help
- i set my output as 16bit png but other 16bit give same result

2. the whole maya interface gets extremely laggy

- im talking like i can barely move a node in the shaderview
- the render is definately slower than with teh same exact scene ( exported from maya) in the stand alone.

if i save out the same scenes as orbx and render in standalone there is no banding and no lag.

i REALLY dont want to change my workflow and go render through stand alone that would be ridicules.

please help,
Thanks,
Sergei

apparently dithering was turned off as a preset?

so banding looks much better but the lag is still not solved. any ideas would be great

thanks

You should combine as many objects as possible. That will remove the lag.

Do you have any animated Octane shaders, I am having an issue where if I animate an octane shader like say the emission attribute to simulate a light flicker or flash then my scene becomes EXTREMELY laggy to the point where I just convert back to Arnold and carry on as the scene aslo becomes very unstable and crashes allot.

i dont have anything animated in the scene, im was doing some space scenes with earth at about a 1/100 scale and using 8k textures and its extremely slow and laggy

high res octane textures in viewport slow down Maya a lot,
to prevent that, in render setting set texture resolution to 1 and texture and swatch quality to 0:
