Multi display & system with more than 5 GPUs problem...

If like me you have a Win 10 Pro system with two monitor displays, both connected via a spare graphics card, in my case a GTX1080. when you install any Nivida driver newer than 411.63 you will get an error saying "This GPU only supports one display" & no longer able to use a dual monitor setup with your

rig.
I have been on to Nivida about this, but they have come back and said they don't support multi GPU systems of this kind. They seem very unwilling to look at their buggy driver & only will support system with 2 SLI cards.
My report ref is:
GPU only supports 1 display with multiple GTX 1080s [Incident: 181122-000127]
If you also have this problem, please quote my report ref.
Shaun.

That is very serious issue 'co drivers constantly need to be updated and it's just a matter of time when 411.xx will not be good enough driver.
Maybe OTOY can explain them that we need more than 4 GPUs (often) and usually workstations with multiple monitors.

Shaun, are you saying that your monitors are hooked to a GPU other than your first slot main GPU? I'm confoozed.

I've got Win10x64Pro, three 980Ti, dual monitors, and NVidia Driver 416.34 installed.. no probs here. Of course, both GPUs are plugged into GPU 1...

Hehe, read his post more carefully, he has more than 4 GPUs, you say you use 3. I use 4 and it works but with 5,6,7... GPUs then it's when problem shows itself.

D'oh! It was right in the title. What a dipshit am I... I had just got up, and hadn't had even one full cup of Joe yet... And I meant both monitors are hooked to GPU 1...

I will file a bug report with NVIDIA and let's see what comes out of it, but would need some more information:
What exactly is the setup of your system, i.e. which mainboard, CPU and which GPUs do you use?
Does the mainboard allow for 5 GPUs or did you use a PCI extender to hook up some of the GPUs?
Which of these GPU are you using as display card?
Thank you.

They have all this info in my report mentioned above.
My system is:
Win 10 pro
AMD Thread Ripper,
Rog Zenith Extreme X399
Current GPU's
2X 2080 ti (Internal one as display card).
On Amfeltec cluster:
2x 1080ti
2x 1080
The system at the time of the report had:
6 x 1080 (4 on the cluster).
This same problem happens to my Intel systems with different MB & CPU. It is related to the number of GPU's I had tested my system with 2x Internal & 2 external & it's fine, but as soon as I add a fifth card it fails.
Not sure if someone has tested this with a system with all cards onboard. But the same problem happens with other external setups.
Again this set-up worked with systems that use drive 411.63, after that it fails.
Thanks,
Shaun.

Thank you for the details. I have filed the issue with NVIDIA. I will let you know when I hear anything from them, but keep in mind that we don't have much leverage here.

Thanks Abstrax, let's hope they an revert that from 411.xx drivers and make it work again, I planed to put 5th GPU in my system but now i'm "scared"

.

Thanks Marcus. I really hope we get this sorted it is really a pain in the butt if we want to stay with current drivers. Their support has been very poor in this respect from my end.
Keep us posted.
Shaun.
